Biography of Gregory S. Ernst
Gregory S. Ernst is a native Oregonian. He was born and raised in Portland but lived his childhood summers in Lincoln City at the beautiful Oregon Coast. Gregory graduated from Grant High School in 1970 and then attended Oregon State and Portland State majoring in public speaking with a minor in music performance. For several years, Mr. Ernst traveled and worked as a jazz guitarist and educator.
While teaching at the University of Washington in Seattle, Mr. Ernst decided to return to college. He attended The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington where he earned his Bachelors Of Arts in 1978. Mr. Ernst remained at Evergreen as an instructor until 1982 where he authored a book titled The Modern Jazz Guitar Manual and became a well-known music performer and educator.
In the late 80’s, Mr. Ernst decided to change careers and become an attorney. He was admitted to Willamette University College Of Law in Salem, Oregon. While at Willamette, Mr. Ernst won the OTLA Trial Competition and earned separate honors in trial practice and writing. He also worked as a prosecutor and tried over fifty cases before graduating in 1992 at age 40.
Following graduation, Mr. Ernst served as both a prosecutor and public defender to further hone his courtroom skills. In 1994, Mr. Ernst opened his private law office in Lincoln City where he continues to practice today. After 19 years of serving clients, Mr. Ernst is an established and respected attorney on the Oregon Coast. He specializes in being a “small town lawyer.”
Mr. Ernst is admitted to practice law in the Oregon trial courts, the Supreme Court of Oregon and the United States District Court For The State Of Oregon. He is a member of the Oregon State Bar, the Lincoln County Bar Association and is a former member of the American Bar Association, the Oregon Trial Lawyers Association, and the Oregon Criminal Defense Lawyers Association.
Greg still plays great jazz guitar on a regular basis.
